Are there discounted accommodation options for delegates?

No. Please make your own arrangements. There are plenty of affordable options available on airbnb.com and other platforms.

Where should I stay to be close to the venue?

You can set the location to be Parkville, Carlton, or North Melbourne.

When will I hear about the outcome of my travel grant application?

Approx. one month after closure of the oral presentation eligible abstract submissions.

When will I hear about the outcome of my abstract submission?

You should have been notified by now of your abstract submission. If you haven’t, please send us an email at committee.phdsymposium@emblaustralia.org.

When will I receive my travel grant?

Travel grants are handed out as reimbursements after the conference. Please inform us when you arrive on site for registration and so we can confirm that you are present. The finance team will then sort out reimbursement after the conference.

Do I need to register if I am presenting?

Yes you do. Please make sure you register and pay the registration fee before Wednesday 20th Nov 2019.

Is my registration included in the travel grant?

No it is not. The travel grant will be reimbursed after the conference.

When does registration close?

Registration closes Wednesday the 20th Nov 2019.

How do I get to the City from the airport?

A variety of different options are available from getting into the CBD from the airport.
  • The Skybus which shuttles between the airport and Southern Cross station.
  • A taxi from the airport to your accommodation
  • An Uber/Ola/any other rideshare service from the airport (this one is recommended above the other options)
Taxi ranks are located outside the terminals and rideshare services are found in two locations:
  • Qantas, International and Virgin Australia passengers from lane 3 of the forecourt;
  • Jetstar, TigerAir, Rex or AirNorth passengers from level 2 inside the T4 Ground Transport Hub.

How do I get around Melbourne and to VCCC?

Firstly, to use the public transport here in Melbourne, you will need to purchase a myki card. These can be purchased around Melbourne at premium train stations, all 7-11s and from Google Pay for all Android users.

Getting around Melbourne and to and from the VCCC is best done using trams. For anyone staying within the Parkville area, tram routes 19, 58 and 59 will get you to the Royal Melbourne Hospital/Royal Parade. For anyone staying along Swanston Street, tram routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72 will get you to Melbourne University on the corner of Swanston Street and Grattan Street. Walk down Grattan Street towards Melbourne University and the VCCC.

How can I join the awesome 3 course dinner on Thursday night?

The dinner is included in the conference registration. If you have paid your registration fees you are signed up for the dinner. Please let us know if you intend NOT to join for the dinner - so we can give the available seat to someone else.

Until when do I need to send in my lightning talk slides? And to whom?

LIGHTNING TALK GUIDELINES:
  • 3 minutes
  • 1 title slide + 2 data slides
To increase the efficiency of the lightning talk sessions, we would like to pre-load everyone’s slides onto the system prior to the symposium. To assist us with this, please send us your completed slides by Monday 18 November to committee.phdsymposium@emblaustralia.org.

What size do I print my poster?

Please bring your poster in A1 size, portrait orientation, rather than A0. If you have already printed your poster at A0 size it's not too much of a problem, it will just be slightly larger than the poster board.
